Water for Peace: The Best Friend’s newest project
The Best Friend is introducing our own branded drinking water, bottled in Mae Sot, Thailand. The 600 ml bottles of clear, revitalizing water are available at the Peace Café in Mae Sot for just 10 baht each. The best thing is, the bottles can be reused and refilled! For a small donation (minimum 2 baht), you can refill your Water for Peace bottle with more cool and refreshing at the refill station in the Peace Café.
By choosing Water for Peace, you are making life a bit better for the people of Burma. For every bottle you buy or refill, a donation goes to The Best Friend, an organization implementing education and social welfare projects along the Thai-Burma border.
We are piloting the Water for Peace project at the Peace Café, but hope to add more outlets soon where people can buy Water for Peace, and find refill stations. We will update this space as new locations are added. Happy drinking!

“The Pen is sharper than the Sword”
“The Pen is Sharper than the Sword” Interview with Ashin Issariya (aka King Zero) and Ashin Kovida, 14th March, 2011 The Best Friend Library, Mae Sot
by Martin Kovan
Ashin Issariya, also known by the pen-name King Zero, was one of the central architects and organizers of the 2007 Saffron Revolution, and continues his educational, political and social-welfare work in exile in Mae Sot, Thailand, via The Best Friend Library with branches which he founded inside and outside Burma. His colleague Ashin Kovida also coordinates the Library and educates the local and global audience about the ongoing Buddhist non-violent resistance movement inside and outside Burma. Martin Kovan is a writer and scholar of Buddhism currently living and working as an educator in Mae Sot. Martin Kovan: Today I’d like to discuss if possible the work of the Best Friend Library, and yourself Ashin Issariya, also known as King Zero, and Ashin Kovida. So thank you both very much for taking the time to speak with me today. I was reading one of your articles from October 1st 2009, where you said King Zero, that “we have to push together, we have to put pressure on this regime because it also endangers world peace.” I’m very interested in what you mean by putting ‘pressure’ in 2011, as opposed to ‘pressure’ in the past. I’m wondering whether you think about that differently now, than you did four years ago. Also, would you consider such pressure as the only or best means of achieving reconciliation with the regime?

Ashin Naymeinda (34): “Elections only serve to keep the junta in power”
http://burmavoices.com/2010/05/u-naymeinda-34-%E2%80%9Celections-only-serve-to-keep-the-junta-in-power/#more-33
Ashin Naymeinda’s Voice
Ashin Nayminda is 34 years old and comes from Nawmo Township, Burma.
He became famous the world over, because photographs of his involvement
in the Saffron Revolution appeared in the media. He is one of the two
monks who are often seen in photographs with a loudspeaker.
“Together with Ashin Thaura and Ashin
Gawsitha, I was one of the leading monks in the uprisings. Because of
this, it was not safe in Burma anymore and I was forced to leave my
country. I was forced to go into hiding for a long time and had to
disrobe and put on layperson’s clothes. I managed to get to Thailand and
have been living in Namti monastery, close to Mae Sot, for one year
now.”
