Chin National Day celebration
Ashin Kovida attended Chin National Day celebrations in Mae La refugee camp.
According to Chin political activist
Salai Kipp Kho Lian (www.chinlandguardian.com):
“We abolished the ancient autocratic system of Chinland on the 20th February 1948 at a mass
conference in Falam right after the Union of Burma gained Independence. In that sense, 20th February
is marked as the day the political power
in Chinland was handed over from autocratic rulers to
the Chin people – the day the Chin people first enjoyed true freedom and democracy.”
Chin National Day is not allowed to be celebrated freely inside Burma, but outside it is.
Ashin Kovida attended a ceremony in Mae La refugee camp and addressed the audience.
In this speech, he encouraged unity among the Chin people. The majority of Chin people are
Christian.Ashin Kovida encouraged them to believe in their own religion, and to respect
and encourage unity. He said, in Christianity there is only one god and everybody
is created by this god.If people really believe in this creation theory, we must all be
brothers and sisters. If people believe this, they must believe in unity.
Because there is only one father, god.
He also emphasised that unity is not only important for the Chin people alone.
Unity should be practiced for Karen, Chin, all ethnic nationalities.
It is important for the whole country.
