Young Generations’ Note Journal media training

On 10 December 2011, International Human Rights Day, a special opening ceremony was held at The Best Friend Library in Mae Sot, Thailand. 19 Year old Burmese student Nay Satkyar Naing has been in Mae Sot for about two years. On 19th September of this year, he founded the Young Generations’ Note Journal, a journal which is distributed within the Mae Sot area and is made by ambitious and conscious young Burmese people.
Nay Satkyar Naing managed to organise the active young people and students who are learning English in Mae Sot and the Young Generations’ Note Journal currently has 27 members. Among them foreigners and Burmese people from different ethnic and religious backgrounds: there are people from ethnic Mon, Palaung, Karen, Kachin and Shan backgrounds and from Muslim and Hindu religion.
Most members are not experienced in the field of journalism, but this does not hold them back and they are actively involved in the production of the journal. Because of this lack of a journalistic background, the journal’s editor, Nay Satkyar Naing, decided to conduct media trainings. With the aid of some foreign journalists who are visiting Mae Sot and King Zero, the trainings and workshops kicked off at The Best Friend Library in Mae Sot this weekend.
Freddy, Richard, Marcia and Katelyn Isaacson shared their knowledge on photography and writing. Besides some foreign visitors, all members of the Young Generations’ Note Journal attended the opening ceremony.
Today, Monday 12th December, Katelyn Isaacson started her writing workshop at the Library. New trainings and workshops will take place monthly at the Library in Mae Sot. The Young Generations’ Note Journal is published on the 19th of each month.
